BBQ Contest Rules


NO ENTRY FEE & NO APPLICATION NEEDED - Contact Jim Peterson to reserve your spot.

Please check in at the registration booth, upon arrival, to receive your assigned area.  You may set up anytime after 10:00 am on Saturday or by contacting Jim Peterson prior to the event.

Mandatory head cook meeting at 5:00 PM on Saturday.

Each team will be asked to provide 8 equally portioned samples in the provided "turn-in container" for each meat.

Teams will cook a minimum of 30 lbs of boneless skinless chicken thighs and 30 lbs of boneless country style pork ribs.

Turn in times: Chicken at 6:00, Pork Ribs at 6:30.

Garnish is allowed, but not mandatory. Garnish may consist of only the following items: chopped, sliced, shredded or whole leaf fresh green lettuce, curly parsley, flat leaf parsley and/or cilantro. NO OTHER TYPES OF GARNISH ALLOWED.

People's Choice Contest will be dispersed to the public beginning at 7:00 PM.

Each team will consist of a chief cook and as many as 3 assistants.

Contestants must provide all needed equipment and supplies.  Electricity will be provided for cooking purposes only. Please bring at least 100’ of extension cord. All contestants must obey to all electrical, fire, and other codes by the "Cass County Fair".

Pits, Cookers, Props andTrailers may not exceed the space allowed for each contestant.

Fires must be wood, wood pellets, charcoal, gas, or electric.  No deep frying.

Each team must have at least one fire extinguisher on site.

No open pits or holes are permitted.  Fires may not be built on the ground.

Please keep your contestant area clean and ALL FIRES MUST BE PUT OUT.

The event is at the Cass County Fairgrounds, so please remember you will need to abide by some general rules in order to stay qualified for this event - excessive use of alcoholic beverages, use of controlled substances, foul, abusive or unacceptable language, excessive noise generated from your area.
